Filmed live at the Hive, Atlanta, Georgia, on October 28, 2020. Dr. Baxter discusses so-called Covid-19 Long-Haul Syndrome. What are the long-term effects of being infected with coronavirus? Do I risk getting “long-haul” syndrome if I had a mild infection?

Dr. Baxter explains findings from an October 7, 2020 pre-print study (Long-term COVID-19 symptoms in a large unselected population). 46.1% had symptoms that persisted past 30 days. Most common: loss of smell or taste. More concerning: similar to symptoms from chronic fatigue syndrome. This begins to look like an auto-immune response to a virus.

Who’s most likely to get long-haul syndrome? Those with most severe COVID infection (hospitalization), those with difficulty breathing (shortness of breath) as an early symptom. Symptoms of long-haul syndrome include dizziness, brain fog, inability to concentrate, heart palpitations. Myocarditis.

Will I get “long-haul syndrome” if I had a mild case of COVID? This pre-print study showed 14.3% of patients with mild or asymptomatic infection had prolonged symptoms (lasting longer than 30 days). Phrased differently, you’re less likely to get “long-haul syndrome” if you have a mild case. How to get a mild case (if you have to get one at all) – reduce the viral load. How to reduce the viral load? #WearAMask and practice #NasalIrrigation.
